Roman Shades(the death of me)

 

These curtains have been the bane of my existence. I bought this fabric from Hobby Lobby thinking that I was going to make curtains for the living room. When I got home, I realized that they didn't match my rug:o( But they did match my bedroom perfectly. I found some beautiful curtains in a magazine, and they even had step by step instructions on how to make them. So I figured I would give them a shot. I kept putting off making them b/c #1 I was sick of making curtains and #2 I spent waaaay too much money on the fabric and cording, and I was afraid to cut it. So after weeks of letting it sit, I finally buckled down and started sewing. I ran into so many road blocks...not having enough cording, sewing things the wrong way, ripping seams for hours...extremely frustrating...but they are done and I am very happy:o) Just in time for the big party:o)

Pottery Barn Kids Knock-Off Activity Table

 

I have been dying to share this project with you!!! The hubs and I put this puppy together(well, mostly the hubs). However, I did cut a few boards on the miter saw, pre-drilled some holes and screwed some screws in, so technically it was a team effort;o) I found the plans for this table here at Knock Off Wood. We went to Lowes and had the guys there cut all the wood to size for us. This made things A LOT easier. We used pine, and pine from Lowes isn't always the best, so you really have to dig around for wood that isn't warped, and I  would definitely take a tape measure with you. The wood isn't always the dimensions that the little tag says it is. 

 

We did things slightly different than the plans called for. The PBK drawers have a little cut-out at the top to make rolling out easier. The hubs is going to put some handles on the drawer fronts this evening. We needed to give the poly a little more time to dry.

  

  I had planned in the beginning to paint the surround and drawers black and stain the top. The staining looked terrible, so I painted it with some brown paint I had lying around. The plans also called for a raised lip on the edge of the table. We just left it flush with the table top, more out of laziness than anything else:o)

  

Now the kids don't have to go to the bathroom floor to play with their blocks, Lincoln Logs, and their train tracks...I know you're digging the Lincoln Log train town I set up for your viewing pleasure:o)

go on without a goal, but for how long ?

One of the weird concepts presented by this site is that you don't have to have a goal in your personal finance. It would be like an anti good finance practice, as guilty as Rich Dad asking us NOT to save in his Conspiracy publication.

Lets get straight to the point then. If I really don't know what I want in life or always fail to stick to the same goal, does that help if I keep on searching my goals and therefore should do nothing about my personal finance until I find the right goal ?

I think the hint should be clear. There is really nothing wrong or as a matter of fact, much better if you also start saving and save automatically while you are looking for your goal.

You may not understand exactly what Warren Buffet is doing but if you were to just follow exactly what he has been doing, what do you think you will end up with? Well, Berkshire Hathaway investors can tell you that they are very happy with exactly that situation ( at least historically ).

If you have found your goal, congratulation and good for you! Unfortunately due to the way our education system is set up, most of us might just spent our whole lives looking for what truly meant to us. At the same time our lives go on as usual and as real as it could hit us hard. So even if you haven't found your goal, go ahead and ;

• Start saving,
• Save Automatically,
• Save in Fix Deposit,
• Invest in Bond Funds,
• Invest in Mutual Fund using Dollar Cost Averaging.

and if you have dependents, you care about someones or your own future, then buy some insurances too.

MalPF doesn't say you don't need a goal. It says having one goal is better than not having any. And don't procrastinate while you haven't found your goal yet, start some actions. And if you don't know what actions to take before having your own goal, stick to what MalPF gives you, the wealth pyramid.

But there is always a line to draw, differentiate those with goals and those without. If you do not subscribe to Dollar Cost Averaging, stay within Bond Fund and Fix Deposit. If you do not follow some of the stock market investment principals, do not invest in stocks if you don't have a clear goal yet.

So you don't have to have a goal to start something, but eventually you will need a good goal to end great.

I am definitely making some of these for my craft room/closet....yes my craft room is a walk in closet with NO windows...however, I am thankful to have a place to be able to shut the door and leave the mess behind;o)
